Cookie Policy

How we use cookies and tracking technologies

Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Macatuv Ltd. ("Macatuv", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website and Services. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy for a full understanding of how we handle personal data. By using the Macatuv site, you agree that we can use cookies as described in this policy (to the extent your consent is required, we will obtain it via the cookie banner).

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, smartphone, etc.) when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the site owners. Cookies can have various purposes: remember user preferences, enable shopping cart functions, provide analytics data, etc. Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, Macatuv) are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than Macatuv are "third-party cookies" (e.g., for analytics or advertising provided by a third party).

In addition to cookies, we may use related technologies like web beacons (pixel tags), tracking URLs, or local storage. For simplicity, we refer to all these as "cookies" in this policy.

How We Use Cookies

Macatuv uses cookies to enhance your experience and to collect information about usage of our Service. The cookies we use typically fall into the following categories:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the operation of our website and Service. They enable core functionality such as user authentication, account management, and payment processing. Without these cookies, services you have asked for (like logging into your account or processing a payment) cannot be provided. For example, when you log in, we set a session cookie to keep you logged in as you navigate. These cookies do not gather information for marketing or remembering where you've been on the internet. Because they are necessary for the site to function, they are used without requiring your consent.

Functional (Preferences) Cookies

These cookies allow our website to remember choices you make and provide enhanced, more personal features. For instance, if you select your preferred language or theme, a cookie may store that preference so we remember it on your next visit. Another example is remembering form inputs or user settings. Functional cookies may also include remembering that you've seen a notification so it's not shown every time. While not strictly essential, these cookies improve your experience. You can choose to disable them, but some preferences may not be saved as a result.

Analytics and Performance Cookies

We use these to collect information about how visitors use our site, which pages are visited most often, and if users get error messages on certain pages. These cookies do not directly store personal information, but they may collect identifiers and usage data that are treated as personal data (like a unique ID assigned by Google Analytics to your browser). The information from these cookies is aggregated and used to improve how our website works and understand user interests.

Specifically, we use Google Analytics which sets cookies such as:

  • _ga: Used to distinguish users (Google Analytics) – typically persists for 2 years.
  • _gid: Used to distinguish users – persists for 24 hours.
  • _gat: Used to throttle request rate – persists for 1 minute.

Consent and Control: We only set analytics cookies with your consent. When you first visit, you will be shown a cookie consent banner. If you opt in to analytics, these cookies will be set; if you decline, they will be disabled. You can change your mind any time as described in Managing Cookies below. Under GDPR and similar laws, analytics cookies require an opt-in consent because they are not strictly necessary. We comply with that requirement. For users in the EU (and generally for all users), our default is not to set analytics cookies until you agree.

Advertising Cookies

Currently, Macatuv does not use advertising or targeting cookies. These would be cookies used to deliver advertisements relevant to you and measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns. They remember that you've visited a site and may track you across other sites. As of now, we do not run third-party ads on Macatuv, so we do not deploy these cookies. If in future we partner with advertising networks or use retargeting, we will update this policy and request consent for any such cookies.

Third-Party Cookies/Embedded Content

Some content or functionality on our site may come from third parties. For example, if we embed a YouTube video, YouTube may set its own cookies to track video views or remember preferences. Our payment page or license verification might incorporate Lemon Squeezy's widget, which could set cookies on their domain for transaction purposes. We aim to list such cookies here:

  • Lemon Squeezy: When purchasing a license, a cookie might be used to keep track of your cart or license state. Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy indicates they use cookies as needed for their service.
  • Google (reCAPTCHA or others): If our forms use Google reCAPTCHA for spam prevention, Google may set a cookie to perform risk analysis.
  • Social Media: If we have social media sharing buttons or login options, those platforms might set cookies if you use those features.

Third-party cookies are controlled by the third parties, not us. We recommend you review the cookie and privacy policies of any third-party services we use. We have agreements or assurances from our partners that they will comply with applicable laws regarding their cookies.

Managing and Disabling Cookies

Consent Management on Our Site

When you first visit, you will see a cookie consent banner (especially if you are in a jurisdiction like the EU). This banner allows you to accept all cookies or customize your preferences (e.g., accept only necessary and functional, but not analytics). We use a consent management tool to record your choices. If you want to change your consent decision later, you can do so by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link at the bottom of the site or clearing your cookies (which will trigger the consent prompt again upon refresh).

Browser Controls

In addition to our site's tools, you can control cookies through your web browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View and delete existing cookies
  • Block third-party cookies (or all cookies)
  • Set exceptions for trusted sites or specific cookies
  • Receive notifications when cookies are being set

Please refer to your browser's help documentation for details:

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Options > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy (or Security)
  • Edge: Settings > Site permissions > Cookies and site data

Opt-Out of Analytics

If you want to opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites (not just ours), Google provides an opt-out browser add-on: Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on. Installing this will prevent Google Analytics JavaScript from running. Additionally, some privacy browser extensions can block analytics scripts.

Do Not Track

Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that sends a signal to websites that you do not want to be tracked. The web industry does not have a consensus on how to interpret DNT signals. However, our analytics provider (Google Analytics) can be configured to respect a DNT signal as an opt-out. We endeavor to honor DNT signals for analytics – meaning if we detect DNT, we will not load analytics scripts or set analytics cookies. Necessary cookies will still function since DNT does not affect those.

Consequences of Disabling Cookies

If you disable certain categories of cookies:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: Portions of the site (like login, secure areas, transaction processing) may not work properly.
  • Functional cookies: Some preferences might not be saved, and you might have to re-enter information or settings on each visit.
  • Analytics cookies: Your visits will not be part of our usage analytics. You will still have full access to the site, and we will simply not include your anonymous data in our aggregate statistics.

Cookie Policy Updates

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal/compliance requirements. We will update the "Last updated" date at the bottom of this policy. For significant changes (especially those requiring new consent, like adding new cookie categories), we will notify users via the site (e.g., re-displaying the consent banner or via a notification) and/or other communication.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about our use of cookies. Your continued use of our website after any update to this policy will constitute your acknowledgment of the changes.
